Have you been comparing your childhood fried chicken and the recent trends of western and Korean fried chicken? From those you can get form your neighbourhood kopitiam (traditional coffee shop) to KFC, Texas, Popeyes and of course the Korean favourites which I shall share those in my other blog posts. For me I have been finding the better fried chicken which is not too oily, crispy and tender meat.
Well, started in 2013, Chic-a-boo Fried Chicken is the brainchild of the founder's pursuit of quality Southern fried chicken. Using only fresh chicken, every piece is freshly made and served with wholesome side dishes, soup (well if you order la) and homemade corn muffin. Available in two flavours Savoury Original and Hot & Spicy.
I didn't know this was around until last year and I love it very much! It sort of brings me to the time where our famous KFC chickens are served in plates and this, my friends, its just what reminds me of the nice old environment. There are three outlets (ya I didn’t know that too !) and the one and only which I frequent so many times is at Marina Square. Tucked in one of the corners just opposite local favourite Aston’s.
They have quite a variety of dishes to choose from and the sides are tasty as well. Each order is cooked upon order and the waiting period can be quite long during the peak meal periods, which is actually good as I know that they would not pre-cook it and leave it there like most fast food chains. I do like the original chicken as its really tender and the flavour is wonderful. Comparing it to the spicy one, I don't quite fancy it as I feel the spiciness overtake the actual flavour of the meat, though still tender but it losses the original flavour.
As the brand suggests, its focus on their fresh chicken, they do have options for fish if you’re not into the chicken. But I have to warn you that its really not as good and I would rather you order the yummy sides instead! Why not try out their big chunky burgers (which sadly do not come with a set choice) which has a variety of sauces. I had tried the BBQ one and its really good just that if you’re not a fan of sweet stuffs, this (the BBQ sauce) might be too sweet for your tastebuds. Oh yes the corn muffins is great too, full of textures and sweetness of the corn is a great appetiser for my meal
Well I hope the rest is up to the pictures to show you the variety of mains and sides available at this place and please use whatever you can finish as the sauces are there for you to take. I see people taking way way too much to what they can manage and its wasteful. Try out the there outlets and dishes and share with me what you like best at Chic-A-Boo!
