Love Korean Pop culture? You must be one of the fans of Korean food as well. From Kimchi to army stew. But have you heard about modern Korean cuisine? Joo Bar is a sleek, casual and inviting venue within a heritage three-storey shophouse in the heart of Singapore near Bugis, offering top notch modern Korean bites and creative drinks in a space that exudes a laid-back vibe with a tasteful dose of edginess
You wouldn't find waitress wearing traditional Korean dress serving you, you will not find traditional Korean food but instead, a creative way to cook, present and some of them, a fusion of western and Korean into them. Even for their drinks, you can expect something fun and tasty on a hot humid afternoon or relaxing after work in the evening.
Truffle fries for a start to start my stomach engine for a great lunch with my friends. The smell from the truffle oil aromatised the whole room as its been served. topped with seaweed flakes and cheese with a yummy kimchi mustard dipping, a good start! The tofu chips with Korean style salsa and warm kimchi with tofu and spam is next. nothing fantastic with the warm kimchi, tofu and spam but the chips with the salsa is worth a try for your appetisers.
The chicken wings, aka Joo wings not bad, nicely fried wings crispy on the outside and I'm sure chicken wing lovers will like it. Grilled squid is nice too. slightly chewy and lightly salted and seasoned squid grilled to perfection for grilled seafood lovers. Next, grilled and roasted Mangalista belly (Hungarian breed of domestic pig).
If you’re the health conscious kind, this will turn you off and for the grilled or roasted meat lovers, this is something which will choke you artilleries by an additional of 20%. Sinful but yet you’ll love the danger of dancing with the devil and I’m sure many of you will find this sinfully satisfying! One of the the best dishes being served.
Oh have I forgotten about this?! This is one more great dish at Joo Bar, LA style Black Angus Kalbi. wonderfully grilled and the dark pinkish meat, juicy and flavourful. I almost forget about this must have! We had the Korean minced rib steak too as well. but i would wish that I had come in the form of a burger as it feels like its missing something… The seafood Gochujang risotto and pasta is something you might wanna have if you’re not into the meaty stuffs. Fresh seafood and big prawns, creative sauce for both these two dishes is worth trying
Overall, if you fancy something different and yet feeling the Korean in you, do try them out. Come and enjoy your lunch or dinner here but do not come in very hungry. You might be fuming mad with their pace of serving your food.
